She looked quickly and although she couldn’t be 100% certain because the lenses on her large frames were too dark to see her eyes, she was almost certain… and really close enough to be certain that her sister had in fact fallen asleep.
Taking her chance, moving just her hands expertly so as not to draw a glance or arouse suspicion, she managed to break a nickel sized piece of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich she had packed earlier that morning, and despite what her sister would later say,the sandwich had not been packed with the intention of what it ultimately came to be: a biological weapon.
All it took was a quick flick of the wrist and the tiny little bit of sandwich gracefully sailed through the air, landing just inches away from its intended target. She did her best to stifle laughter and then there it was… a flurry of wings, feathers, orange feet, and the noise! So much noise. The flock was on top of her sister, diving, fighting, rearing for the little morsel of sandwich… her sister shrieking and her laughs filling the once peaceful New England beach. Bingo.
